James died on 3 Jan 1893 at 33 Walker St, Glasgow, of cardiac disease and dropsy (swelling that is usually a symptom of heart disease). His death certificate stated that he was a retired sugar and general merchant. He was just 47 years old.
We know from his death certificate that his wife was Elizabeth Matthews and that he had at least one child, a daughter Elizabeth H Thomson.

James’ will:

So then I went hunting on Ancestry and found a draft notice dated 1918 for a James Albert Augustus Lambert Newall. James was born in Belize, British Honduras June 13 1897. Mother’s address is Belize, British Honduras. Was Anna Lambert Newall James’ illegitimate daughter? What about the wife and daughter that are mentioned on his death certificate?

curious. No further records can be found for Anna Lambert Newall, or for either wife Elizabeth Thomson or daughter Elizabeth H Thomson.
